Webinar – Raising the Bar – Engaging the Planning Process to Leverage FHWA Funding Capacity For Transit Projects

Have you ever wondered how, or if, federal highway funds could be tapped to construct transit projects – like transfer facilities, maintenance yards, or administrative buildings? What if your agency wants to infuse transit elements like bus only lanes, bus pull-outs or transit sig-nal priority into a highway or a local streets and roads project but you don’t know where to start or how to gain the necessary funding capacity? Or, how is your region ever going to deliver the transit improvements identified within its Sustainable Community Strategy? Or maybe you are looking for options to fill the gap in your preventative maintenance funding needs. If your answer is “I Don’t Know” to any of these questions, then this may be the webinar for you!

Come join Caltrans and two Metropolitan Planning Organizations as they discuss the require-ments that allow Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funding to be flexed for transit pro-jects or elements that directly benefit both transit and the traveling public. This session will provide an overview of the process from planning, identifying eligible funding, programming and then to the process of flexing FHWA funds to FTA.

Speakers: Robert Nguyen, Caltrans; Brenda Caruso, Caltrans; Erin Thompson, Caltrans;
Adam Crenshaw, Metropolitan Transportation Commission; Ivan Garcia, Butte County Associ-ation of Governments.
